How to Be Free…If Only for a Second

Mortgage (or rent), bills, loans, stress at work, pounding head, aching back, struggling to make ends meet, and what feels like a billion people relying on you for something will make anyone feel as if they’re a slave in America’s (not so) free society. Credit card debt, dead-end job, dark future, no way out, and to make matters worse, you’re dipping into your savings.
Hey, I’ve been here a few times and right now times are good, but at the same time I know the feeling and I’m nowhere near where I want to be. I can relate, and if you’re battling a situation like this, you may be thinking one thing: How in the world can I be free?
Well, first you need to find something that captivates you so much you forget about all the stress, at least for a short amount of time. What is it that frees you from the shackles of life?
When I workout, write, and study Wicca (who said dudes can’t be witches?), I’m free. When I voice my opinion regarding America’s political and military-industrial complex, I’m free. When I spend ten to twelve hours in the gym training clients or working the office, I’m free.
So, you need to find what it is that sets you free, and we’re not talking about recreational drugs or alcohol. No, what’s your passion? What would motivate you to wake up hours before your work shift begins?
We all have that something telling us it’s a Joyous Yule (or Christmas Morning, for my mainstream crowd) every morning. What do you love to do? Better yet, what can you see yourself doing as a career in place of what you’re doing right now? What does the world need from you?
So, how do you become free from the chains of life holding you down in a hatch? This is the question you need to answer. Once you find your thing, make it part of your daily schedule and the time of day you pursue your passion must be sacred. Nobody else can infringe upon the right to your sacred time. You shouldn’t have to worry about work and if your boss is calling after work hours, you have every right to ignore him or her.

Can this passion of yours cause friction between you, your friends, and family? Sure, it might, but at the same time, if your friends really like you and your family really loves you, why is it such an issue to them? It needn’t be, and if there’s one thing I totally love about Wicca, it’s the fact that it deals with ridding your life of all negativity contrary to popular opinion.
So, if you need to set a bridge or two on fire (figuratively), you have the right to do so. You have the right to burn bridges from anyone deeming what you’re doing as stupid, self-centered, or anything that releases heavy, negative feelings toward you. This is your life and you deserve to be happy. If the job you’re doing right now isn’t making you happy, you have the right to find what does. True friends and family will stick by you, and the rest must go by the wayside.
So, make time for your passion and do this daily, and cut relationships to the bone. I’ll be the first to warn that your circle may get small, very small, but that’s okay, because you’re going to find people like you. The beauty of the world today is everyone is interconnected via online devices. This means I can log onto a Goodreads forum and find like-minded people writing and editing their debut manuscripts. And you can log onto a site that supports your passion and find people you can relate to. In time, your circle will grow once more, this time with the right people surrounding you.
Lastly, never give in. You deserve to be free, and free you will be. You were born free, and you have the right to be free of any restraint, especially when life happens. This is what passion is all about; finding your freedom. Sure, it’s going to take a lot of work and it’ll feel like a second job. The difference here is, you’re going to love every second of it.
